Salary: $7,629 – 7,946 – 8,285 – 8,647 – 9,014/month

Schedule: 70 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:45 PM (Nine-Day Fortnight)

This is supervisory, technical, and administrative work in directing the traffic systems and street lighting operations as part of the Transportation Division of the Engineering Department. The incumbent will develop and administer the Municipal traffic operations program; supervise the work of a small group of subordinates; prepare specifications and cost estimates for traffic control systems; direct consultants and contractors engaged in the design, installation, operation and maintenance of traffic control and street lighting systems; plan and supervises traffic studies and investigation of traffic problems and complaint; and prepare related recommendations and reports to Council. The work is performed under general supervision only, with policy matters and major recommendations for the City advisory committee of Council being discussed with a supervisor who reviews work in terms of effective traffic operations and in terms of adherence to sound traffic engineering practices. Furthermore, you will provide information, assistance and interpretations relating to traffic control and street lighting systems and traffic related by-laws, policies, and procedures to the public and to a variety of internal and external contacts; and represents the Transportation Division at meetings as required. Perform related work as required.

Qualifications include graduation from an Institute of Technology with a diploma in Traffic Engineering Technology plus, considerable related experience sufficient to qualify for membership in a recognized Institute of Traffic Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, and Certification or eligibility for certification as a Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist with the Association of Applied Science Technicians and Technologists of B.C. Thorough knowledge of applicable departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Considerable knowledge in the techniques and equipment used in traffic engineering operations, Municipality's street layout, street lighting systems and of the applicable Municipal by-laws as they relate to the work performed. Sound knowledge of traffic engineering and traffic signal system design principles and practices. Ability to direct division operations with minimal supervision, plan, assign, prepare specifications, drawings, and cost estimates, for traffic sign installations, traffic control devices and design geometrics for streets and intersections and to direct the design of traffic signal systems. Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
